Paranormal investigation that we see in TV are fascinating - many cool gadgets, from digital recorders to infrared camcorders and stuff like this. I am paranormal investigator myself for quite some time now, and I have to admit - sure, all these electronic gadgets are cool and flashy, but do you really need them? No - in most cases they're useless. From my own perspective, true paranormal investigator needs three simple "tools" and nothing more. These mandatory tools will be described and explained now.

Brain

First tool is your brain - or in other words, your mind. This is something many ghost hunter wannabe forgets - you can use digital cameras, recorders, lasers, EM meters etc, but if you won't use your brain, all the data you gather will be useless. In paranormal investigation always use your mind - connect the facts, analyze the proofs, seek explanations, perform experiments - this cannot be done with expensive gadgets, but only with your mind. This is the first tool you need.

Body

The second mandatory tools is your body. During your investigation you might need to use brutal physical force. Or you might end up in some cold place, surrounded by snow and freezing air. Or you might investigate during very, very hot day. Paranormal investigation won't always take you to warm and pleasant places. Sometimes you will visit abandoned locations with now way of warming yourself, and you might need to use your physical body to survive, for example when will fall along with the floor five meters down. Paranormal investigations are not always safe, so keep this in mind - your physical body should be in good shape, just in case.

Notebook

Finally, your last mandatory tool is a notebook - it is said that ghosts and spirits might cause malfunctions of any electronic or electrical equipment, and in case your iPad goes down, you need something to keep notes. Believe it or not, but even with technological advancement in XXI century, simple paper notebooks are still most reliable methods of saving information you gather during your investigation. Those are the three mandatory tools you need during each paranormal investigation. Of course, you might need flashlight too, but it won't be very useful if you won't be using your brain, body and notebook. Without these three elements, no gadget will do you any good.
